Mara Lederman is an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. She joined the faculty at Rotman in 2003 after completing her Ph.D. in Economics at M.I.T.
Lederman does empirical research in the areas of Industrial Organization and Organizational Economics. At a broad level, Mara studies how companies compete and how they should optimally organize themselves. Her work has studied the effects of loyalty programs, the determinants and implications of firms' vertical integration decisions, the role of network effects and price discrimination in imperfectly competitive markets. Much of her work has been carried out in the airline industry, using this industry as the empirical setting for investigating important economic phenomenon that had previously been difficult to measure or credibly identify.
